…when the eastern countries first joined in, the song contest was dying. A German tv executive was quoted calling it “a decomposing something in the basement of television” and we will never know how close the cancellation of the whole thing was in the mid-90’s. The countries of the East brought in something the contest had lacked for a few years; enthusiasm, the will to win, the ambition to show yourself in the best possible light.

As from midnight, delegates and media can start booking hotel rooms for their stay in Düsseldorf. Host Broadcaster NDR contracted the agency BCD Travel to handle the accommodation arrangements in the lead up to the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

Eurovision Insight Podcast: Some Death-Violin with your Semi Finals?

This week’s news, with a new logo for Eurovision 2011, a new look for Eurovision.tv, the semi-final allocation, winners from the National Final heats, and a bit of death-violin music to finish from Alexander Rybak and Keep of Kalessin.

The accreditation process for media representatives and fans starts on Tuesday, 25th of January 2011, and closed on the 15th of April, at 23:59 CET.

Ralph’s back!

Ralph Siegel submitted the same song he wrote for last year’s Eurovision Song Contest winner Lena Meyer-Landrut in the Maltese selection. The German composer stated that his entry was rejected and decided to give it another go in the Mediterranean island.

The Grimes brothers, John and Edward, travelled to London yesterday to record their song with UK-based songwriters and producers, Dan Priddy, Lars Gensen, and Martin Larsson, who have penned a string of hits for JLS.
